Swim and dive
Swim
The Swim and Dive team had a great season. The boys’ and girls’ teams earned second place at the regional meet. While beating several teams this season, multiple school records were broken.
Sophomore Bella Lorack broke the 100- meter freestyle with a time of 53.14 seconds. Juniors Joe Dill and Nathan Walker and Sophomores Mason Hibbard and Jostin Keithley broke a ten-year record during the 200-meter freestyle relay. Nine girls and seven boys qualified for states. Five other new team records were also set at the state meet.
Dive
We only had one diver this year, but he did great this season. Junior Nathan Walker earned top three at almost every competition and first at regionals. He qualified for the state diving championships and placed third.
Track and field
Boys
The Warhill boys track team won almost every regular season meet. At districts, they beat our rivals, Lafayette high school, by five points. They were also runner up at regionals by just twelve points.
Girls
The Warhill girls track team went undefeated throughout their meets in the Bay River district. They also went to regionals and took home first place. According to runner Junior Hannah Howard, “The girls worked hard to get to where we are, and as most of the girls are going to states, I know we will do great.” The girls’ team went to the state meet as well.
Wrestling
The Warhill wrestling team had a particularly good season. They beat Jamestown for the first time in the history of Warhill’s wrestling team. They had seven boys, and four girls qualify for States. Another big accomplishment this season was Senior Jay Wolanzyk earning first place at the regional meet. They also had five boys place in the Bay River District meet.
Basketball:
Boys:
The boys’ basketball team has made some great improvements over this season. The boys made it to the playoffs this year for the first time in six years. The boys also improved their record this year with seven wins and 16 losses. Overall, the boys’ basketball team consistently put in the work to improve, and it showed this season.
Girls:
The girls’ basketball team had a great season. They went 17 wins and five losses which beats last season’s record of 15 wins and 8 losses. This season, the girls welcomed a new coach, Coach Brungot. Despite this, they beat Grafton High School, which has historically been a challenging team to beat. Senior Taylor Dowell said, “The girls really bonded as a group over these past four months. This team is a well-rounded blend of girls from all grades, even though six seniors will leave the den this year. Coach Brungot has made a [significant] impact on the girls, so they are already reloading for the next season.”
