PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia police say four armed robberies in Center City appear to be connected, and investigators have issued an arrest warrant for a South Philadelphia man they believe took part in one of the attacks. The robberies happened between Aug. 23 and Sept. 1, and police say the people targeted in the incidents were selected for expensive jewelry, cash, or both.
Authorities identified the suspect named in the warrant as 32-year-old Shakur Nichols. Police say they are still looking for him and are asking for help identifying other people involved. Investigators also released a photo of a man wanted in connection with one of the robberies as they work to piece together the broader pattern.
How investigators say the four robberies fit together
Central detectives say the robberies form a clear cluster over a relatively short period. The first case they described happened around 3 a.m. on Aug. 23 near 1500 Locust Street, where police say video shows one suspect carrying an AR-style rifle and three others armed with handguns.
According to detectives, the group robbed a victim and then headed to Sin City Cabaret at 6130 West Passyunk Avenue. Police say they believe the suspects followed another intended target there, a female employee of the club. Investigators say the attacks suggest the victims were not random, but chosen because of what they wore or carried.
In at least one case, police say cash was taken along with jewelry. In others, the suspects focused on watches, chains, and other expensive items. Detectives have not said whether the same group carried out every robbery, but they believe the cases are linked.
Warrant issued for Shakur Nichols after Sansom Street robbery
On Monday, investigators announced an arrest warrant for Nichols in connection with an armed robbery on the 1200 block of Sansom Street at about 2:22 a.m. on Aug. 28. Police say two suspects were involved in that case, and both were armed during the robbery.
According to investigators, one suspect carried an AR-style rifle while the other had a handgun. Police say the pair robbed a victim who was walking with a group. During the robbery, the suspects took a watch worth $2,500 and two chains valued at $7,000 each.
The warrant marks the most specific step yet in the investigation, but police have not said Nichols has been taken into custody. Detectives are continuing to search for him while comparing evidence from the various robberies.
Police say the victims were targeted for jewelry and cash
Investigators say the cases appear to share a common theme: victims wearing visible valuables were singled out. Police said the people robbed were often chosen because they had noticeable jewelry, flashy clothing, or other items that appeared worth stealing.

People who live, work, and spend time in Center City said the robberies are unsettling because they appear to have happened in busy parts of the city and targeted people simply because they were carrying valuables. One woman, Amanda Ware, said incidents like these make it hard to enjoy the city. Gigio Longo, who owns Uhleeche Pizza, said he avoids going out after midnight because that is when he feels things become more dangerous. Others, including visitors from Trenton, said the robberies were alarming because they were happening in places where people would normally expect to feel safe.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, and they want anyone with information about Nichols or the other suspects to come forward. Detectives are still trying to determine whether all four robberies were carried out by the same group and whether more arrests will follow.
